Some people who’ve helped me in more ways than they realize:
A classmate of mine from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Ariel Gore, founder of Hip Mama. And the folks at Literary Mama. Both have parenting websites that are substantially different than mine, but I was indeed inspired by their names.
And my editors at USA Today, Carol Memmott, and USA Weekend, Kathy Balog. Two more generous, smart, funny, book-loving women cannot be found.
My daughter, Lucy, who has plowed through hundreds of books before age 5 and can use the word pinnacle in a sentence, as in “Look! That’s the pinnacle of the Empire State Building — where James’ giant peach got stuck!” And now her baby brother, Charles, who already enjoys eating books by Tana Hoban, Sandra Bonyton and Lois Lenski.
And last, but so far from the least, my husband, Randolph, who designed this blog and has supported my writing all along.
